Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style

Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent {August 1, 1936 – June 1, 2008}

Tonight was all about YSL fashion.  The Seattle Art Museum presents Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style, showcasing highlights from the legendary designer’s 44-year career. Drawn from the collection of the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent, the exhibition features new acquisitions by the Foundation that have never been shown publicly before. My friend {Maggie} and I had a fashion date and really enjoyed the work of YSL – master couturier and fashion pioneer.  The exhibit features over 100 couture pieces. It’s quite spectacular. Here is a glimpse…

California Love

california

I decided to take the whole of month of October off. In the beginning of October I took a trip down south to California to visit friends/family and travel down the coast. My first stop was to see my lovely dear friend {Jennifer}.  It was so great to see her and meet her daughter {Penelope}. She is the cutest! I stayed with {Jennifer} and her awesome husband {Kosta} in San Mateo. They were such great hosts. Jennifer and I took lovely strolls down Burlingame Avenue, a lovely dinner in the city at Monsieur Benjamin, visiting beautiful Half Moon Bay and amazing playtime with little Penelope. I also was able to catch up with two of my cousins {Joey} & {Nina} for a nice dinner in Mountain View. It was a good night for the San Francisco Giants and such a great time seeing them because it’s been years!

My bestest friend {Crisa} met me in San Francisco later on that week for a girls road trip SF > LA. We had such an amazing time and saw how gorgeous the California Coast really is. For our first night, we had a lovely dinner in the city at Wayfare Tavern, a British-pub style eatery by Tyler Florence. After dinner we took a little city drive down the famous crooked street – Lombard and visited the famous painted ladies at night. We then drove down to Santa Cruz and stayed at the cute boutique hotel – Hotel Paradox.

The next morning we woke up and explored Santa Cruz. We traveled to the Boardwalk and then ventured down to Big Sur. I absolutely loved driving down Highway 1. It was so gorgeous – the views were absolutely breathtaking. We had lunch overlooking the ocean at Big Sur’s – Nepenthe.

From Big Sig we found our way to to a cute little town called Los Olivos for wine tasting. We just made it before they closed but left with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from Saarloos House. A few miles away was a little Danish town called Solvang known for their Bear Claw Pastries and cute little clogs.  Lastly, we made it all the way to Santa Barbara for dinner at the Outpost at the Goodland Hotel. What a cute hotel!

That was an amazing road trip. California is so beautiful. I never get tired of looking at the ocean. The next day was a beach day and a Stephanie day. I went to Manhattan Beach with {Crisa} and her daughter {Chelsea}. She’s so adorable! I took a trip to the LA Museum – LACMA and saw the Guillermo Del Toro Exhibit. It was quite impressive!

That Sunday I drove down to San Diego to visit my good friend {Chelsea}.  We had a perfect Sunday of pedicures, lemonade and Pacific Beach. I loved going to the beach and hanging out on the pier to watch the surfers. It was a perfect Sunday!

A new soccer year, a new team. Last year, I was fortunate enough to partner with the USL (United Soccer League) Team – Austin Aztex. This year, it was all about the Tulsa Roughnecks. I love working on event posters.  I partnered with the team to design all the home game posters for the 2016 USL Soccer season.  We kicked it off with a vintage photo of the head coach, who actually was a Roughnek in the 80’s. Here is a glimpse of my favorite posters for the season…

GK Krew

Last week it was all about the GK Krew.  This summer I partnered with IFBB Pro Bodybuilder, Mark Sindayen to build his brand {GiantKiller Krew} and create the look of his GK Krew Apparel line. The logo features Urban typography and his signature pose. It has been great working with Mark {@filipinogiantkiller} and his wife Loraine.   Support GK Krew and buy cool apparel. The theme for the photo shoot  was { ATHLETIC . STREET . URBAN}. Location:  An elementary school on the Eastside.We wanted to keep the photo shoot urban and authentic to the brand.  Loved working with all the models. Here is a glimpse of the photo shoot of the GK Krew photo shoot…

{dom + elle look book cover options}

It has been a busy, busy, busy summer. I wanted to share my latest project with you. Last March, I partnered with a couture luxury swimwear designer for dom + elle {see original blog post}. We partnered again to create the first look book for the brand. I absolutely love creating look books {fashion + graphics} my two favorites. I love doing graphic layouts and making each page unique and stylized to the brand. For the typography, I went with a modern serif font that was inspired by fashion magazines like Vogue + Elle. Love the thin quality of the type and mixing it up with the sharpie-like handwritten font. This was such a fun project. {You can see the online look book here}  Here is a glimpse of the final cover and completed dom + elle look book…

Where I Sleep…

For the last month, I’ve been working on a personal project – my bedroom.  It’s been so nice and I look forward to going to bed these days.  The makeover included a new bed, a new dresser, new art and frames, bedding and accessories mixed of new and vintage touches.  It started with this bed from West Elm – the James Harrison Bed in tweed. I absolutely love the high upholstered head-board. It’s absolutely comfortable. Of course with a new bed, you need new bedding. I went with a classic, yet modern white texture. I love white bedding it reminds me of chic hotels. From there, I decided to get a new dresser. I found this lovely dresser called the Audrey  – also from West Elm. It’s the perfect mix of mid-century modern and glamour. I love it.  I couldn’t stop there, I bought new frames and art prints that I adored and actually designed some too. I’m happy with the way everything turned out and wanted to share with you. Here is a glimpse…
