makeup monday // lashes in a box

Lashes in a BoxHello. Happy Makeup Monday. Beauty talk was on a little hiatus, but now it’s back and can’t wait to share my latest beauty love!  If you know me, you know that I’m obsessed with lashes. There is just something about lashes that really wakens and enhances the eyes. I’ve tried all types of lashes – all styles. My new favorite is LASHES IN A BOX. Love the packaging for one (you know I’m a sucker for chic packaging}. LASHES IN A BOX offers several styles with 10 pairs per box.  It’s definitely a luxury line where quality isn’t sacrificed.

My favorite set from LASHES IN A BOX is No. 17. I love the wispy quality.  No.17 is all about 100% handmade full wispies – 20 piece set that features all-around natural length and full volume. I’m so in love!

makeup monday // too faced soul mates

Too Faced Soul Mates

Happy makeup monday! Makeup Monday is back. I took a little break from beauty reporting because I have been working on so many fabulous projects!  On this Monday, I started the day early and went to breakfast and did a little window shopping. I came across these very adorable bronzers from Too Faced called Soul Mates.  What drew me to this was the cute packaging and the names. Oh the names of these bronzer duos – Ross & Rachel and Carrie & Big. Love and adore!

Too Faced - Soul Mates

Love Too Faced makeup especially for their packaging.  I would describe it as unapologetic glamour and femininity. Soul Mates Blush Bronzer comes in the two palettes – Ross & Rachel and Carrie & Big, which are a mix of a contour and a pop of color and a little shimmer. I haven’t tried these palettes, but the packaging (and names) had me at hello!  Here is a glimpse of these lovely palettes…

makeup monday // face rules

face rules

face rules 101…

Yes, there is a specific order to putting on you FACE makeup. Here is a little guide to makeup application.

PRIMER

This probably is an obvious one.  You must prime your skin before anything else. Primer allows foundation to glide on more easily and helps set the base so your makeup sets better and smoother. It also controls issues like redness and pore size.  If you apply Primer first, your make up stays on longer and it smooths the skin prior to foundation.

FOUNDATION

Foundation follows primer. Pick your favorite foundation {liquid, creme, mousse, etc} that closely matches your skin color and apply to the face to create even, uniform color to your complexion.

CONCEALER

Concealer after foundation. If you have a blemish, apply concealer over your foundation. This makes sense because you don’t want to apply concealer before foundation because you will just be disrupting the areas you want to conceal because foundation will smudge that area and basically waste the products.  Concealing is more concentrated so apply only to certain areas – eyes, blemishes, etc.

CONTOURING + HIGHLIGHTING

These two go hand in hand.  If you are into contouring + highlighting, then this stage is where it’s at.  If you don’t contour, then skip right on to the powder.  Always go a few shades darker for contour and a few shades lighter for highlighting and apply to the specific areas of the face to make “skinny face”. See earlier post for contour map

POWDER

Save the powder until the end. Powder sets the makeup and prevents oil + shine. No one wants a shiny face.  It’s basically the icing to the cake. It completes the face. After powder is applied, don’t apply anything shiny or with a consistency of liquid. That is where you get “cakey” makeup and that’s no good.

makeup monday // beauty bags

Sonia KushukMy latest beauty obsession are the beauty organizers by Sonia Kushuk. These beauty bags are perfect for summer. I love the pops of color and the graphics. These prints are too hard to resist. This collection was a collaboration with artist Linda Mason. The best news is that they are all under $25. You can see the rest of the collection here. Here is a glimpse of my favorites…

makeup monday // caitlyn

Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn

Last week Caitlyn made her debut as she graced the cover of Vanity Fair. Annie Leibovitz’s portrait of a woman named Caitlyn Jenner – was all the talk last week and buzzed all over social media. She looked absolutely stunning!  After the cover was released, everyone wanted to know, “Who did her hair?” – “What nail polish is she wearing?”.  I have all the answers for you.

Hair. For her it was all about Oribe. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray and Signature Blowout Heat Styling Spray for volume and shine.

Face. Tom Ford Foundation and Kevin Aucoin’s Sculpting Powder but not for contour but to enhance her eyes. For her cheeks, they used Serge Luten’s Blusher for that peachy glow!

Nails. For her nails, it was all about Deborah Lippmann’s Nail Lacquer in Lady is a Tramp!

makeup monday // weekend beauty buys

beauty buysHello and happy Makeup Monday!  Over the weekend I purchased a few beauty items and wanted to share my beauty purchases with you. Most of them were drugstore buys and I love all of them.  Lip color is always my weakness. I always leave with a fun new lip color. I can’t help myself.

My five beauty purchases of the weekend…

1. Elf Essential Expert liquid eyeliner. I loved this eyeliner.  I can’t believe it was only $2! Unbelievable. It glides on so easily and keeps that thin line without smudging. You have so much control with this liner to create that precise definition.

2. Elf Studio retractable Kabuki brush. A girl loves her brushes. This was a total need and not a want. I didn’t want to carry my beauty blender in my clutch. I wanted something more travel like for when I’m on the go. This retractable Kabuki brush was so perfect. It’s great for a quick face touch up.

3. Milani Eyeshadow. Brown Foil 03.  I bought this dark brown color for my brows. I usually go dark brown for my brows instead of black because I feel dark black brows on me look too harsh. The brown gives a softer look.  Thought I would change it up from my usual Anastasia brow routine.  I found the eye shadow to be good pigment and I love the gold packaging. So chic! I will do a tutorial in the future on my brow process/routine.

4.  Loreal Lipcolor. Pink Flamingo #180. Like I said, I have a weakness for lip color and I buy lipstick from anywhere I go.  I feel I need all colors. I really love Pink Flamingo. It’s not super intense, which I normally do. It give a nice bright pink, but softer for the day. I also like the fact that the design of the tube is gold too. It looks lovely in the purse.

5. Ben Nye Banana Powder Dome.  I will use Ben Nye Banana Powder for ever. It is THE luxury powder. I just recently blogged about how amazing this powder is. Two reasons for the purchase. One I was almost out of my Ben Nye powder and freaking out and Two I wanted to buy the dome container instead. The only bad thing I have to say about Ben Nye powder is that when you get the larger container, the process gets a little messy and you waste a lot of the powder. I like the dome for more control.

makeup monday // beauty by Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs Beauty

Happy Makeup Monday!  One thing I have always thought is that the Marc Jacobs beauty collection packaging is so fabulous! It’s a combination of my two favorite things beauty + graphics {brand}. I love it. A company in NY – ESTABLISHED created the Marc Jacobs beauty packaging.  They described the concept as a “line of beautiful, fluid shapes in a high shine inky black lacquer finish. The sensual, complex curves of the products and unexpected proportions result in a collection that is both simple and thoroughly modern. Every detail was meticulously considered from the ultra thin frame-around mirrors to the layout of the makeup or an oversized button. Here is a glimpse of the collection…
